Agritechnica 2019, the world’s leading trade fair for agricultural machinery and technological innovation, is taking place this year on 10th – 16th November in Hanover with 2750 exhibitors attending from 51 countries.
We’ll be there demonstrating and promoting our commercial vehicle safety solutions, which are particularly relevant as the agricultural sector has one of the highest rates of workplace fatalities and serious injuries of any industry.
Agriculture is a very diverse business, ranging from small organic farms to vast commercial enterprises, and farmers are under ever-increasing pressure to improve profit, productivity and efficiency. However, a balance has to be struck between these concerns and the essential safety of farm workers.
In the UK, farming accounts for 20% of all fatal accidents at work, despite making up only 1% of the country’s workforce. According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), moving vehicles were responsible for more than a third of farm fatalities between April 2018 and March 2019.
Design of modern machinery has led to significant performance improvements, but the nature and size of these machines mean operator visibility can often be impaired.
Blind spots are a huge contributory factor in many incidents involving agricultural machinery. The shape, size, and elevated operator positions all limit the field of vision for an operator making it difficult to spot objects or people in the immediate vicinity. Technology is helping to solve these issues by eliminating blind spots on machinery and assisting operators working in difficult conditions when visibility can be compromised, such as overnight or in bad weather.
Commercial vehicle safety systems give drivers better visibility as they manoeuvre their vehicles by providing a complete surround view of the vehicle in real time in a single image.
At Agritechnica we’ll be promoting some of our most recent innovations which are helping to keep farm workers safer:
Our Radar On-Screen Display (OSD) integrates up to two sensors and a camera. The on-screen display warns the driver of obstacles in the danger zone by overlaying 5-stage audible and visual radar data onto the camera image on the monitor.
Our new Radar IP69K Water and Dust Proof Display with its 5-stage adjustable audible and visual distance warning display, now works in all terrains and weather conditions, suitable for vehicles with external cabs or those exposed to the elements.
