Reducing collisions has long been a key priority for Brigade Electronics. The Backeye® 360 AI camera system represents an important step forward. This innovative system uses four cameras connected through an ECU to create a clear 360-degree bird’s-eye view, removing all blind spots around the vehicle.

“What makes Backeye® 360 AI unique is the integration of artificial intelligence,” explains Nikki Collignon from Brigade Electronics. “The system doesn’t just provide visibility – it actively detects when people are near the vehicle. The driver receives immediate warnings if a risk is identified, helping to significantly improve safety.”

Extra visibility where it matters

A strong example of Backeye® 360 AI in action is found on one of the Red Cross fleet vehicles. “Under the guidance of fleet manager Remco Wiersema, a new truck was fitted with our camera system,” says Nikki. “This vehicle transports medication and equipment for day-to-day operations as well as events.

“These environments often include narrow paths, crowded areas and many volunteers working on set-up and breakdown. The constant changes in staff and conditions make safety more complex. Not everyone drives the same vehicle every day, shifts are long, and surroundings vary. In situations like these, having an ‘extra set of eyes’ is essential.”

Safety, even when stationary

The Red Cross has now been using the system for about a year, and the feedback has been very positive. “The system brings calm and clarity. We really miss it on other vehicles,” says one of the Red Cross drivers.

Nikki adds: “Backeye® 360 AI supports safety not only on the move but also when the vehicle is stationary. Volunteers often work at the rear of the vehicle counting stock or retrieving medication. With an extra monitor installed inside the vehicle, they can always see what’s happening outside. This ensures safety even in busy areas.”

Backeye® 360 AI is highly versatile and can be expanded with additional features such as a recording module for footage review, extra warning systems for complex manoeuvres, or a Driver Monitoring System to check driver alertness, with notifications in the cab or even to the control room.
