WAS and Brigade are building on their long-standing collaboration with the WAS Innovation Box Ambulance, now fitted with Backeye®360 AI. Four HD cameras and AI-powered person detection give drivers a clear all-round view, helping support safer manoeuvring during demanding emergency operations.

Four years on from the first case study on the WAS 500 E-RTW fitted with a Backeye®360 system, WAS & Brigade are taking things a step further.

This time, WAS’s Innovation Box Ambulance has been fitted with a Backeye®360 AI camera system.

The system combines four HD cameras with AI-powered person detection, offering comprehensive all-round visibility and real-time person detection.
In the emergency services in particular, staff are often exposed to stressful situations during emergency call-outs. An additional vehicle safety system assists the driver with manoeuvring, particularly in these stressful situations, as they can see at a glance on the monitor whether there are people or obstacles in front of, beside or behind the vehicle. This actively helps to prevent accidents, thereby also avoiding accident damage and downtime for emergency vehicles.

In addition to the cameras on the exterior of the vehicle, an internal wide-angle camera has been fitted in the patient compartment, the feed from which is also displayed on the monitor in the driver’s cab. This provides additional safety for emergency personnel in the event of assaults or in extreme situations where the patient becomes unstable.

As well as the 7-inch Brigade monitor in the driver’s cab, the vehicle is equipped with WAS Smart Control in the patient compartment.

The WAS Smart Control is a central display in the patient compartment which, in addition to the time and date, also shows the internal and external temperatures, battery voltages and the oxygen cylinder levels
It is complemented by a timer and stopwatch function, as well as integrated indicators for indicators and brake lights, so that it clearly consolidates all important vehicle and status information in one central location, enabling medical staff to get a quick overview at any time.
