BAI and Brigade Electronics: Customised Security

Feb 1, 2024

The collaboration between BAI and Brigade Electronics continues: a well-established partnership between leaders in their respective fields.

BAI, has over thirty years of experience, in which, it has gone from being a small local company to becoming the reference point in Italy and one of the major players at an international level in the fitting out of fire-fighting vehicles. As its name perfectly sums up: Brescia Antincendi International. In addition to Italy and Germany, where it has a branch and has delivered well over 100 vehicles. BAI also has a strong presence in North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as in the Middle and Far East, especially China, and targets local administrations, refineries, and the Oil & Gas sector in general.

Brigade, for its part, pioneered vehicular safety in Europe, introducing the first tonal alarm for reverse gear on our continent back in 1976. Since then, Brigade, too, has seen steady growth, with branches all over the world, and, above all, with the development of numerous systems aimed at implementing its mission: preventing incidents and saving lives.

The two companies, united by a focus on quality, innovation and the latest technologies, work together to ensure the maximum safety of the fire-fighting vehicles fitted out by BAI.

These vehicles are mostly supplied to the National Fire Brigade Corps and can be of various types , including forestry, municipal, airport, special, of which each industry has its own unique dimensions, characteristics and traction.

BAI’s skill is to be able to make the vehicles according to different needs, whether it is a single unit or a series of over 100 vehicles. A customisation that only a company with the structure of BAI can offer: a technical department of over 20 people, a network of reliable suppliers, including Brigade, and a deep knowledge of the market are the keys to BAI’s success. In addition to having always maintained production at its historical site in Bagnolo Mella, which today can equip up to 250 vehicles per year.

Moreover, there is a demand for multi-purpose vehicles, suitable for different uses. For example, airport vehicles that are built on commercial chassis so that they can also be used in city environments, where vehicles with greater capacity than purely municipal ones are sometimes required.

And equally increasingly, competitions require vehicle safety equipment that is higher than mandated.

Monitor with Backsense® Radar Display

Backsense® Radar

Being emergency vehicles, the fire brigade must have a vehicle that leaves as little room for error as possible and does not waste time on manual safety checks. They must be equipped with all useful aids to intervene immediately and, above all, safely. Not least because they often have to move in urban contexts with narrow manoeuvring spaces. Safeguarding, first and foremost, people and vehicles is therefore fundamental and must be guaranteed with the best systems. Namely those of Brigade Electronics, which supplies BAI with cameras and monitors, a 360-degree vision system, obstacle detection radar and Mobile Digital Recorders. In detail: the rear camera, connected to a monitor in the cab, is mandatory for reversing. As is Backsense®, the radar that acoustically and visually signals via a display on the dashboard the presence of obstacles, fixed in or moving, in the area behind the vehicle. Two systems necessary for large vehicles, which, without them, would not allow any control of the area behind the vehicle. But that’s not all: for more extensive obstacle detection, BAI, on request, also installs Backsense® at the front and, to be able to monitor the entire area around the vehicle and completely eliminate blind spots, it uses Backeye®360, the all-round vision system around the vehicle that reproduces the footage of four cameras positioned on the four sides of the vehicle in a single image in real time. A truly valuable solution for ensuring safety in all manoeuvres.

Connectable to Backeye®360, or even to the rear camera alone, is MDR, Brigade’s mobile digital video recording system that archives footage from the cameras, with numerous advantages: it is a reliable witness in the event of false claims and a deterrent against vandalism; it also encourages the driver to drive in a virtuous manner and, at the same time, protects him from any unfair accusations, thus becoming a trusted ally that allows him to move and operate in peace.

These are all devices that BAI installs on new vehicles, meticulously following the regulations and the requirements of tenders, and sometimes even on older vehicles that need to be updated. The Brescia-based company, in fact, has a technical assistance and maintenance service that intervenes on vehicles under warranty, directly on site, through authorised centres or with the mobile workshop, and also takes care of reconditioning vehicles already in use that need, among other things, an overhaul of the components, including safety ones. A complete supply, proudly Made in Italy: keeping the headquarters in our country has proved to be a winning choice, which has led BAI to assert itself and forecast further growth in recent years. Also, thanks to serious, competent and avant-garde partners like Brigade Electronics.
