Ferroberica

Discover how Ferroberica improved production, in 2021 by completely renewing its vehicle fleet with a total of 7 telescopic handlers which have been fitted with Brigade’s Frontscan® and Sidescan® ultrasonic detection sensor systems to the front and side of the vehicle and bbs-tek® white-sound acoustic warning system.

Ferroberica, a European leader in the pre-shaping and assembly of steel reinforcing bars, has recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Founded in 1973 in Vicenza, Ferroberica became part of the Alfa Acciai Siderurgical Group in 1991. They have since expanded, adding plants in Catania, Sedegliano (Udine) and Montirone (Brescia) to serve both national and international markets (France, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania).

Ferroberica sources its supplies exclusively from the Group’s steel mills, Alfa Acciai in Brescia and Acciaierie di Sicilia in Catania to provide companies in infrastructure for construction such as hospitals, towers, roads and railway works, maritime works and dams. Specifically, it deals with rebar processing, i.e. cutting, shaping and laying on site or pre-assembly.

For these processes, operating machines are required to move the rebar; more specifically, telescopic hoists, which are fast, precise and efficient. To improve production, in 2021 Ferroberica completely renewed its vehicle fleet with a total of 7 telescopic handlers which have been fitted with Brigade Elettronica safety devices.

Ferroberica camera
Ferroberica: Backeye®360 is a 360-degree high-definition camera.

Following several evaluations and a successful practical test, Ferroberica fitted the new telehandlers with Backeye®360. Backeye®360 is a 360-degree high-definition camera monitor system that combines footage from 4 cameras positioned around the vehicle into a single image on the in-cab monitor. Backeye®360 eliminates blind spots and provides a complete view of the area around the machine. Ferroberica opted for a 7-inch AHD monitor, which is clearly visible even in poor lighting conditions and can show both a single full or split image.

In addition, two Backsense® obstacle detection radars have been installed at the rear of the vehicles. Capable of effectively detecting multiple, stationary and moving objects, Backsense® acoustically and visually signals their distance on the in-cab display.  The radar sensors are resistant to water, humidity, dust, mud, vibration, high and low temperatures, making them suitable for heavy-duty applications.

Finally, Backchat® was installed, a 110 decibel external voice alarm with a personalized pre-recorded message, prompting the attention of workers when the vehicle is approaching.

These are features that Ferroberica wanted to safeguard its personnel whilst also protecting the telescopic hoists and the surrounding structures/ objects which, if hit, can in turn hit people. As maneuvering spaces continue to get tighter, Brigade Elettronica’s safety systems help to navigate these spaces safely.

Forklift Truck installed Brigade’s Frontscan® and Sidescan® ultrasonic detection sensor systems to the front and side of the vehicle and bbs-tek® white-sound acoustic warning system, which meets the standards of the Milan City Council Directive aimed at eliminating blind spots, protecting both pedestrians and cyclists.

On trucks traveling off-site, Ferroberica has installed Brigade’s Frontscan® and Sidescan® ultrasonic detection sensor systems to the front and side of the vehicle and bbs-tek® white-sound acoustic warning system, which meets the standards of the Milan City Council Directive aimed at eliminating blind spots, protecting both pedestrians and cyclists.

Ferroberica fully understands the importance of protecting operators and vulnerable road users, as well as vehicles. This awareness has led to the upgrade of the vehicle fleet, a well-considered and strategic step for the growing Vicenza-based company, which aims to increase production to over 300,000 tonnes per year. This is an ambitious goal, but certainly achievable by Ferroberica, a well-established, innovative company with attention to safety.
