Brigade’s Front Radar sensor are specifically designed to meet the 2024 DVS requirements and GSR’s R159 regulation. DVS Front Radar and R159 Front Radar are advanced dual-radar collision prediction systems with a 180° detection angle to the front of the vehicle. The driver is alerted via the front assist radar, through visual and audible signals if a vulnerable road user is detected in close proximity.

Direct Vision Standard
The new legislation requires a front radar sensory system that detects pedestrians or cyclists in the blind spot area in front of the vehicle. The sensor system must also be reactive and not provide false alarms.

R159
Regulation 159 requires a Moving Off Information System (MOIS) to detect and inform the driver of the presence of pedestrians and cyclists in close-proximity to the front of the vehicle and, if necessary, warn the driver of a potential collision. The information system should minimize false alarms.

How Does Front Radar Work?
In this video, we explain how the Front Radar sensor provides critical warnings to protect vulnerable road users. Learn about our two-tiered alert system: Level 1, which uses color-coded lights to indicate the presence of objects or individuals in various detection zones while the vehicle is stationary, and Level 2, which escalates to flashing lights and an audible alarm when the vehicle begins to move and a vulnerable road user is detected. Watch as we demonstrate how each level functions to ensure maximum safety in real-world scenarios.
Level 1 Warning
When the vehicle is stationary a red, amber or green light is shown if a vulnerable road user is inside the detection zone.
When stationary, a light is shown if there is a static or moving object in the middle detection zone.
When stationary, a light is shown in the left or right zone if a moving object is detected.
Level 2 Warning
If a vulnerable road user is detected in any zone when the vehicle begins to accelerate, the display unit will alert the driver with a flashing light as well as an acoustic alarm.
The Direct Vision Standard is Evolving
From October 2024 the DVS Safe System is changing to the Progressive Safe System (PSS). The Progressive Safe System includes new additions such as the front detection system or Moving Off Information System (MOIS). The new legislation requires a front sensory system that detects pedestrians or cyclists in the blind spot area in front of the vehicle. The sensor system must also be reactive and not provide false alarms.
Specifically designed to meet the 2024 DVS requirements, Brigade’s DVS Front Radar is an advanced dual-radar collision prediction system with a 180° detection angle to the front of the vehicle. The driver is alerted through visual and audible signals if a vulnerable road user is detected in close proximity.
Two Alarms
One when the driver detects a VRU when preparing to move off, and one when the vehicle detects a VRU as it has begun its forward maneuver
Provide a Signal
When the vehicle is stationary, the system must provide a signal to inform the driver of any VRUs who are in or about to enter the critical blind spot in front of vehicle
Collision Warning
The collision warning must be a combination of at least two modes from an optical signal, acoustic or haptic
R159 Moving Off Information System (MOIS)
MOIS is a system to detect and inform the driver of the presence of pedestrians and cyclists in close-proximity to the front of the vehicle and, if necessary, warn the driver of a potential collision. The information system should minimise false alarms.
The regulation imposes the following requirements:
- The system monitors the blind spot in front and prevents collisions with pedestrians or cyclists
- For vehicles of classes M2, M3, N2 and N3
- When operating the vehicle between 0 and 10 km/h
- MOIS informs the driver of a cyclist or pedestrian in the blind spot via an optical, acoustic, haptic or combined signal.
- Detection from 80 cm to 3.7 m in front of the vehicle (4.5 m in total)
- Minimum detection width should be 4.3 m
Front Radar Alerts
Green Light
A green light is shown if a VRU is between 150cm and 250cm from the front of the vehicle
Amber Light
An amber light is shown if a VRU is between 70cm and 150cm from the front of the vehicle
Red Light
A red light is shown if a VRU is less than 70cm away from the front of the vehicle
